Life Is Different Here...A review of Page 3

These are the best lines to describe this film. These lines are woven throughout the film and could pretty much sum up the whole theme. We have Madhavi Sharma, played by fabulous Konkona Sen Sharma, a journalist for the infamous Page 3 column of the Indian newspaper. Involved in the glitzy and glamorous world of the rich and the famous, she eventually discovers that this world, when examined closely, is just as disturbing as the 'real' world. She lives with her roommate Pearl Sequiera, played by Sandhya Mridul, and her later roommate Gayatri Sachdeva, played by Tara Sharma.

Most of the film tries show just how wicked and self absorbed these people are, by these people I mean the rich and famous socialites that are willing to do anything to be on the front page of the newspaper. Madhavi at first blind to this, discovers through various events in her life; which would include her roommate's attempted suicide, her boyfriends affair, her best friend's betrayal, her termination from her job, and the suicide of a socialite, whom she considered to be the most real one of all. I don't want to go into to much detail, for that you should watch the film.

What really opens her eyes to this glossy world, I think, was the funeral service being held for the popular socialite who committed suicide. She realizes that these people don't care about her at all, they just knew the press would be there and any kind of publicity is good publicity. Madhavi realizes that instead of mourning, people seem to be more preoccupied with their material world. In the end she is asked to cover a party for her Page 3 column...she stares at all the people she used to feel very comfortable with...and leaves but not before realizing that, “the party is over," for her.

This is a fantastic film, it takes you into the 'real' world of the rich and famous who gloss the covers of magazines.  It reminds me of Luck By Chance, but I think that in this film the expose into this world worked alot better than it did in LBC.
